Wait…how does it go? “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me…”?
Yeah, okay. This is one of the crummiest sayings passed around I think. Words can hurt. Words are meant to bring on emotion. They were made to elicit some sort of feeling and carry some sort of connotation.
However, just like everything else in this world, words can be used negatively or positively. We can break down or bridge together with our words. We can love or hate with them. We can ultimately curse or bless using our words; death and life reside in the words we speak.
Use words for good. Just like we want to use our time wisely and spend our money wisely-spend your words wisely as well. Let them be life-bearing and revitalizing.
Maybe today you can shed light through your words. Offer someone an encouraging word-tell them they are loved, or highlight their strengths by telling them how great they are at something.
There is not enough of this. There is no reason we need to constantly be combative with each other or verbally attack each other. I see it all the time on social media. I hear it all the time out and about. Nastiness spewed out by the tongue between family and friends. I’m convicted of it as well.
Be the light. Be about speaking life.
